Galle

The 4th largest city in Sri Lanka ,situated 119 km south of Colombo, the city of Galle is rich in a variety of tourist attractions such as sandy beaches of golden sun ,colourful coral reefs , rainforests and a number of historical buildings.

Having benefitted with its geographical location, Galle has been a seaport from early 1400 BC.In 1505 with the arrival of Portuguese ,the modern history of Galle began as a fortified city .The Portuguese were overthrown by the Dutch ,the city reached its top development levels during their time and later the Dutch were overpowered by the British .Due to its architectural features of multiple foreign resemblances the city has earned reputation among its visitors and the centuries old Galle Fort was declared a World Heritage in 1988 by UNESCO.

Main attrctions
The lighthouse that erects 18 m from the ground dates back to 1848 and it is the oldest as well as the most visited beacon in Sri Lanka.The lighthouse that we see today was built in 1938 since the original was destroyed by fire in 1934.National Maritime Archaeology Museum located at the Old Dutch Warehouse in the fort exhibits marine artifacts explored from the surrounding ocean floor of Sri Lanka.

An entrance free, privately- owned museum of miscellaneous artifacts also is found within the fort.
Port of Galle
Elephants,peacocks,gems and spices specially cinnamon from Sri Lanka were exported since ancient times using the seaport Galle.Even today the place holds reputation in sea-trade worldwide.Beezerland invites its guests to the place while travelling down south ,it is a fact that the Galle port has been recognized by the international Yatch Soiety as one of the world’s best attractions and it is the only port that provides facilities for pleasure yatchs in Sri Lanka.Development plans of the port will enhance its importance further in future.
