Highlights: Spend the day in beach Bentota and experience the area.

It is a well-planned tourist development area. It has a long broad sandy beach, at its best during the October to April holiday season, with safe swimming – although red warning flags fly when currents are too strong. There are some fine beachside hotels, which also have swimming pools, as well as guest houses to suit all budgets close to the carefully planned developed area. All the services a visitor requires (banks, post office, tourist shops, restaurants, a railway station) are available and the area has an atmosphere of respectability. Guests have evening entertainment in the beachside hotels and there is plenty to see on day tours from the area, such as cruising on the Bentota river, visiting the two private gardens of Brief and Lunuganga, or indulging in water sports since Bentota has a reputation as being the water sports capital of Sri Lanka.

Highlights: Boat ride in Madu River / spend the evening in Unawatuna beach.

Lush green palm trees adorn soft sands bordered by azure waters at Unawatuna, one of the best places for a beach holiday. Found a short distance from Galle, Unawatuna can be your base from which to visit enchanting Jungle Beach for a day of lounging by the ocean or for some snorkeling . A fascinating array of shipwrecks off the coast makes for quite the scuba diving trip as well.

DAY 04

Route: Unawatuna

Highlights: Spend the day leisure in Unawatuna.

Discovered in the 1980s by young, independent travelers who liked the beautiful bay with year-round swimming, it has grown to be a major beach destination. While village homes have been expanded into guest houses, hotels have been built along the beach and interior bungalows have become boutique villas. Unawatuna is perhaps the liveliest beach resort in Sri Lanka; it is isolated from the main road and enjoys a sense of freedom that young at heart travelers appreciate. It seems there is a party somewhere on the beach every night, yet hotels and villas also offer a peaceful retreat for the more mature who want good swimming and gentle fun in the sun

Do not miss the magical moments when the largest animal to have ever inhabited the earth raises its fluke and dives into the deep blue ocean in search of its prey. The blue whales in Sri Lanka are known to fluke more often than any other sub species around the world. DAY 06

Route: Unawatuna / Galle / Colombo

Highlights: World Heritage Site Galle & Turtle hatchery & proceed to Colombo Galle was once the chief port of Ceylon. It is still well known for hand-made lace. You can also visit the Galle Fort (spanning 90 acres) which was originally built by the Portuguese and later extended by the Dutch in 1663. This is a World Heritage Site.

Highlights: En route Visit Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage.

Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawala, As you enter the 25 acres coconut property, do not be surprised to witness baby elephants being bottle fed or moving around freely causing absolutely no harm to anyone. It is rightly a sincere sight to observe how these gentle giants - orphaned and sometimes three-legged - are taken care of since 1975 at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Up to date, over 20 calves have been born here, and it is surprising to hear that some of its inmates have even seen their grand children during the past few decades! Watch as they feed at 09:15 am, 12:15 pm & 05:00 pm and take a river bath twice a day at 10:00 am & 02:00 pm respectively for an experience that could never be felt anywhere else on earth!

The ancient city is full of iconic buildings, remnants of a people from a bygone era that flourished under the rule of their kings and queens. Walking amongst these ruins is a real treat, as you learn about their ways of life. The buildings were beautifully built by craftsman and adorned by artists. Historians believe that from around 4th century BC to the 11th century AD, Anuradhapura was the capital Sinhalese and a thriving economic hub in South Asia. Although Anuradhapura's history is easily traced from the 4th century BC, excavations have been able to identify artefacts from the Iron Age which easily dates back to 900 BC. It is believed that from those times the community grew and flourished to become one of South Asia's grandest kingdoms

DAY 06

Route: Arugam Bay Beach

Highlights: full leisure in beach At the beginning of 1970 this bay isolated on Sri Lanka's east coast, attracted the attention of intrepid travelling surfers. The word spread and suffers arrived from around the world to enjoy the waves and to take part in organized surfing competitions. Makeshift accommodation, in tents and bamboo huts, was erected and over the years the small fishing village has been transformed into a thriving community catering for surfers and their followers, and also for young-at-heart tourists seeking a simple beach holiday. Arugam Bay is for the independent tourist happy to make new friends as well as to laze in the sun or in the beachside cafés if not actually surfing.
