Visit the Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawala, as you enter the 25 acre coconut property, do not be surprised to witness baby elephants being bottle fed or moving around freely causing absolutely no harm to anyone. It is rightly a sincere sight to observe how these gentle giants - orphaned and sometimes three-legged - are taken care of since 1975 at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Up to date, over 20 calves have been born here, and it is surprising to hear that some of its inmates have even seen their grand children during the past few decades! Watch as they feed at 09:15 am, 12:15 pm & 05:00 pm and take a river bath twice a day at 10:00 am & 02:00 pm respectively for an experience that could never be felt anywhere else on earth!

Royal Botanical Garden First developed as a pleasure garden under royalty and later harmonized by the British, the Royal Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya - today bundled with the most welcoming facilities located just 4 miles off Kandy - is a flourishing national asset in the Wonder of Asia. Walk into this 147-acre bliss of an experience, passing well-tended lawns, pavilions & an octagon conservatory to be greeted by the vast expanse of a magnificently landscaped lush green turf which will encourage you for an exhilarating break. Towards the north of the entrance rests a cafeteria that one might come across before stepping into some of the highlights - the orchid house & giant Javan fig tree - of this place which overflows in grace. Adam's Peak or the Sri Pada is an important pilgrim site. 

Buddhists believe the impression on the summit is the footprint of Lord Buddha himself. Though it takes around 5 hours to reach the peak by foot, devotees of many religions climb the mountain daily to invoke blessings. The mountain is also named Samanala Kanda or Butterfly Mountain. Adam's Peak is surrounded, largely by forested hills, with no mountain of comparable size anywhere near the vicinity. The region of Peak Wilderness Sanctuary that encompass the Adam's Peak together with Horton Plains National Park and Knuckles Range, all in the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka is recognized as a World Heritage Site in the year 2011. Majestic Sunrise and the Shadow of the Mount When the sun is just about to rise, the pilgrims and tourists rush to the eastern side to witness an amazing spectacle. The sun almost leaps over the eastern horizon drawing a perfect triangle of a shadow of the mountain spreading over the western backdrop of the mountain. As the sun keeps on rising, the shadow shifts towards the base of the mountain until it completely disappears, a grand finale to a breathtaking natural spectacle.

With an altitude above 7000ft, the plateau sweeps to a robust 3169 hectares sheltering flora and fauna varieties that may be found no where else on earth. As the tributary of Belihul Oya - Bakers Falls - thunders down rocks head off the beaten track - across frost-covered grass - to feel the icy-cold wind against your face. You may even gaze down World's End, a head-spinning 3700ft drop towards the Southern end or drive carefully through herds of sambar deer, shy to human touch & birdlife chirping across the plains. If you're cautious enough you may be greeted by the sights of a grunting wild boar, a pouncing fishing cat, otters or even the 'Spotted-Ghost that haunts the plains', the Sri Lankan Leopard!

Highlights: visit ancient Dhowa Temple.

Dhowa rock Temple is one of the heritage sites in Sri Lanka, situated in central mountain of Uva province. Dhowa is small ancient village which is situated on Badulla, Bandarawela main road. The Dowa rock temple could be considered as a Mahayana Sculpture with a huge unfinished Buddha image carved into the rock face. The temple dates back to Before Christ times. It has been built safely inside a ring of mountains. A beautiful river is flown across the plateau. Hence, the area had earned the name, Dowa.The 38 ft rock carved Buddha statue and the ornamental gateway are the main attractions of the temple. The statue is in the state of ruins due to fasy decaying.

Galle was once the chief port of Ceylon. It is still well known for hand-made lace. You can also visit the Galle Fort (spanning 90 acres) which was originally built by the Portuguese and later extended by the Dutch in 1663. This is a World Heritage Site. Proceed to Bentota

Highlights: Udawalawe Elephant transit home / Udawalawe Safari.

After breakfast proceed to Udawalawe Udawalawe National Park sprawls over 30,000 hectares along the border of Sabaragamuwa and Uva Provinces, about a five-hour drive from Colombo. The Park, open to visitors when accompanied by a tracker, was formed as a sanctuary for wild animals displaced during the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir. Its vegetation is influenced by its the wet and dry zone boundaries, a range of plains highlighting its topography. The park is known for elephants, water buffaloes, wild boar, spotted deer and fishing cats and jungle cats. Endemic birds including the Ceylon Junglefowl, Ceylon Spurfowl and the Ceylon Grey Hornbill are to be seen and other bird species such as the Spot-billed Pelican, Little Cormorant, Grey Heron and the Indian Pond Heron frequent the park.

Highlights: Village tour in Ella.

After breakfast transfer to the starting point of the trek. The day's trek will give you an amazing insight into the lifestyle of people who live and farm in this scenic mountainous region. You will walk past a small village and gradually venture into the Ella agricultural area where paddy is grown on mountain terraces and irrigated by small streams. You will have the opportunity of visiting a village home to meet a farmer who will be delighted to show you around his home and, if it is the season, treat you to a drink of coconut water from his garden. Bidding farewell to the farmer you trek through dense jungle to a scenic stream which leads through small villages.

Route: Ella / Bandarawela / Nuwara Eliya
