Colombo, which is Sri Lanka’s commercial capital, is an interesting blend of the varying influences it has seen for more than 600 years. Its importance as a trading port increased after the arrival of the Portuguese to the island in the early 16th Century.


Despite its small size, Colombo offers a varying selection of experience ranging from a visit to Pettah market to playing a round of golf and having high tea at one of the colonial style hotels overlooking the Indian Ocean.


Galle face Green, the mile long promenade which borders the Fort on the South is the largest open air stretch in the city and is a lively centre for relaxation in the evening with the backdrop of a beautiful sunset.


The old parliament of Sri Lanka is situated facing the Galle face Green. The Neo-Baroque-style building was built during the British colonial era and was inaugurated on January 29, 1930 by Governor Sir Herbert Stanley. The old parliament housed the Legislative Council of Ceylon for 53 years until the New Parliament Complex was opened at Sri Jayawardenepura in 1983 .
The Colombo Museum is known to be the first public museum in Sri Lanka and has a vast collection of Antiques and many other Artefacts’ from all over the countryside.


The Independence Commemoration Hall located on Independence Square in Cinnamon Gardens, is a national monument in Sri Lanka. This was built long after independence was gained from the British rule on February 4, 1948. The structure is constructed similar to what is found in ancient Sri Lankan architecture and it was designed to resemble a Kandyan audience hall. The rows of stone lions that guard this great monument are a unique feature of this Commemoration Hall.


The Gangaramaya Buddhist temple is a beautiful and vibrant temple with a history that dates back over many centuries. This temple was said to have been built in the 19th century.
The over 100 year old Royal Colombo Golf club is situated within 20 minutes drive from the city centre.
The Old Colombo Dutch Hospital is considered to be the oldest building in the Colombo Fort area dating back to the Dutch colonial era in Sri Lanka. Built according to seventeenth – century Dutch colonial architecture, the building is now a heritage building and a shopping and dining zone.
